Those Who Dare

I’ve had the Olympics on the TV this weekend as I’ve worked on identifying my brand, my theme that runs through all my writing. As it turns out, it’s quite appropriate for backgrounds inspiration. There is one thing that Olympic athletes do that most of us don’t. They dare.

We all have dreams, some of us have goals. Some make an effort to achieve the goal. And some dare to do it boldly in front of the entire world.

Think about it. It each event, only one person will bring home the gold. Two will come close to achieving that goal. The rest will lose in front of the entire world.

Of course, we won’t consider them losers because they accomplished a level of achievement few of us ever will. They qualified for the top rung in their events. Most of us don’t believe we could ever reach the top, so we don’t give it our all. We make do with wishing we could have competed.

It takes daring to do anything in a public forum, from applying for a job to submitting a manuscript for publication. How many of us don’t ask for that promotion, don’t apply for the position we dream of, don’t send off our manuscripts because we don’t think we’ll succeed?

When you think about it, someone will win gold. Someone will get that job, publish their books. Someone who dreamed, trained and dared to try will reach their goals. What’s keeping you from being that someone?

Most of us don’t have the skill to win the luge or a 1500 meter skating event. Not all of us could succeed as a bookkeeper or policeman. And most of us won’t win the Pulitzer prize. But someone will, and I can tell you who that someone will be.

It will be one of those who dared to try.

What’s your dream? Do you have the talents needed to make it a goal? Take the first step in training for your event. You just might find yourself bringing home the gold.

On a whim, I decided to introduce my series, Devil’s Promenade, with a short-short story I’m offering for free here at my site. I hope you enjoy Wolf Call. And watch the Books page for updates on releases. If you read the story, post a comment and let me know how you like it!
